What Is Cloud Computing?

According to WEBOPEDIA…

Cloud computing is a type of computing that relies on sharing computing resources rather than having local servers or personal devices to handle applications.

In cloud computing, the word cloud (also phrased as “the cloud”) is used as a metaphor for “the Internet,” so the phrase cloud computing means “a type of Internet-based computing,” where different services — such as servers, storage and applications — are delivered to an organization’s computers and devices through the Internet.

Hmmmmm…so what does that REALLY mean?!

With cloud computing, you are able to store personal things such as pictures and even your favorite music.  Companies are able to utilize ‘the cloud’ to store company data.

What do you think about ‘The Cloud’?  Do you use it for personal use or at work?  Do you think the concept will grow BIGGER than it is now?

Let’s Talk…

  1. To me, Facebook is a type of cloud computing for me. I have more photos on Facebook than I have on my computer and smart phone combined! It not only stores my own personal photos, but I also have photos that other people have shared with me or sent to me.

  2. I think it will grow bigger. Once we had disc now it is usb but cloud can support more. I am learning that clouds are secure ways to maintain data. Thanks for breaking down.

  3. A great example of cloud computing has been utilized in the Apple line of products. You actually have a ‘cloud’ for email, contacts, calendars, reminders, etc. I use it for work and personal use. The concept will definitely be growing based on the increase in technology and the convenience of having apps placed in one particular designed space.

  4. I have not used any Clouds, yet, actually I’m still pretty skeptical of it. It just seems like anyone could access your files and information. How is information kept confidential in the Cloud?

  5. Cloud Computing is an intriguing concept for both personal use and business enhancement. I believe that this computer based application in my opinion is evolutionary and has already surpass Virtual Memory. This is the next step to eliminating multiple data storage devices and back-up hardware by migrating to a total electronic era. Thanks for the heads up.
